SECTION 13: Secure Your Church WordPress Website From Hackers
You DO NOT want to have your website hacked. It is a mess to fix.
You would think your Church Website would not be a target. But one tactic hackers use is to take over sites that are not that significant to create a larger network to attack their more significant targets.
Every site can be a target, so you need to do what you can to keep this from happening.
Thankfully you do have a couple of great options.
Option 1: Install and Configure the free iThemes Security Plugin
Search for and install the iThemes Security plugin using the steps that we went over in that Plugins Section of this Guide.
Here is the direct link from the WordPress Plugins Directory…

After installation, you will need to configure the settings and optimize it for optimal site safety.
iThemes has created a guide to setting up the Pro version of this plugin, but most of it will work for the basic version as well.
This can be risky to setup as it may change how your site functions, so be sure to have your site database and files backed up. Make these changes at your own risk. If the changes you make break something with your site, you should be able to go into your “Installed Plugins” and deactivate it to fix the issue.
