How does your church communicate?

I think every church has to figure out the best way to get information to their people. There are many principles that can probably be used in any situation. But everything is not always as easy as following a formula. What works for some might not work for others.

What is the best email strategy? Can you just email your list of addresses or do you have to have them opt-in first to email for a specific purpose? Will people respond to a simple text email or do we need to go with graphics and html? Should we have a printed bulletin or do something online? These kinds of questions have to be asked on a regular basis to keep communication fresh and effective.

That does not mean that you have to change anything at the point of asking the question. Maybe you are doing exactly what you should be, or maybe something has to go a different direction. Asking the questions is necessary regardless.

Currently we are testing a few methods at our church to improve communication. Using QR Codes in our bulletin for instance to link to media for mobile phones. Only placing all church events in our weekly bulletin and putting departmental events into a monthly handout and download. If we find something does not work, we can just stop doing it. It is okay to test and explore new things within reason.

So, what new ideas are you thinking about in the area of church communication? In addition to looking at church search engine optimization and local search, this blog will also take a look from time to time at how we communicate within our church. I will be the first to admit that I am still learning and exploring in this area. Your ideas and new thoughts are welcome.
