And so it begins…
Communication is a huge challenge for churches. We are promoting a message that everyone needs, but most people don’t want to be interrupted to hear.
The challenge is to communicate in a way so that people are receptive, but… that does not compromise the message.
When I first began learning how to create websites I subscribed to a lot of internet marketing content and the so called gurus. Let’s be honest, some of these guys are probably making up the amounts of money they are earning
or are at least stretching the truth. But, that said, there are a lot of them who are making huge amounts of money from their websites.
The only way that can happen is if they have a lot of people coming to their websites. They know how to get traffic. So over time I got the idea to develop a strategy to use their techniques to promote a church in a community. To get the word out there in normal Google search terms related to the specific community that the church is in.
That is harder that it sounds. Doing that and being relevant when people find you is not easy. How can you have something on your church website that is relevant to someone searching for a JC Penney store or a restaurant? But… that also reads as something relevant to your church?
I do not have all of the answers. I am not a web guru, just a self taught WordPress user. I am not a professional search engine optimizer. I am not a professional internet marketer either.
I AM simply a Christian and currently a church staff member who has a desire to get the word out about Christ and my local church into the community. I am not even sure it will work at this point, at least not to the level that I am hoping it will. I am just beginning the process.
