1. Search for your church on Google Maps
Search for your church by name and address on Google Maps to see if there are listings that have already been created. There could be one already created, and there may even be duplicate listings.
If there are duplicate listings you will want to claim both to get access to them. There should be a link on each page that says “Manage Page” or something similar. Click there to begin the claiming process.
You will then keep the one that most closely represents the correct info and complete the information once claimed. You will want to delete the others that you will not use as duplicate accounts could be confusing and hard to keep up with.
You may also be able to simply go to the incorrect listing and find the “Report a Problem” link and let them know that the incorrect listing should be deleted and removed.
>> You can also go directly to Google Places for Business to search for your church by phone number to locate it and find out there is any info for it.
2. Claim it and wait for the postcard with PIN Number
Even if your Google Page has been claimed in the past and says owner-verified, you may not have access to change it. If you don’t know who has access to it, I would reclaim and wait for the postcard so you get access to it on the new Google/Gmail account.
Google can change the verification process at any time, but typically you will get a postcard in the mail with a PIN number that you will use to login and verify your account.
3. Login and complete the information
After receiving the PIN and verifying your account, login and complete your profile information using the info you have stored in your Local Promotion Resource Document.
4. Get positive reviews!
After claiming your Google Page and completing the information, you will want to get Google Reviews from people in your church.
You have to be careful with this because people can leave anything they want on there positive or negative. This is not the place to send your disgruntled people or those who are on their way out of your church.
But, this is a great place to send people who are happy with your church. You can put a link to it in your bulletin, on your Facebook and Twitter pages, in your weekly email or wherever you can that reaches those who have a positive view of your church.
The more positive reviews the better. Not only does Google like it and potentially place you higher in the search engines, but it also helps potential visitors to your church make their decision about whether to attend or not.
