Click the screenshot above to download your Church Local Promotion Resource Document to use as a template to begin filling in information about our church and saving it in one place.
1. Name of your Church
You will want to write the name of your church exactly as you would like it to appear in Google Places & Maps and other listings. Do you want to abbreviate any part of the name? Do you want to add Church at the end of your name if that is not in there? Figure out exactly how you want your name to appear everywhere online and stick with it.
You will want to be this specific and consistent with every part of your Church Name, Address, Phone Number, Website, and Email Address. Be consistent.
2. Church Address
This cannot be a PO Box, but needs to be a real address. If you are meeting out of your home that will work, you will just need to change it if you get a more permanent location. You might want to wait until you begin meeting somewhere else if that is the case to avoid that problem. It is very important that your address and contact info appear as identically as possible across the web. Details such as East instead of E. are important to consider and need to be the same everywhere. It does not matter which way you choose as long as it is consistent.
You can also enter an address and choose not to display it on many of the listings if that is an issue. But my guess is that if you have a church, you want people to know where you are so they can find you.
3. Phone number and best email address
Preferably this is an email address branded to your website such as info@yourwebsite.com. But a Gmail or Yahoo type address will work if that is all you have available. This may be a great time to consider creating a church website with emails associated with your website address.
4. Short description of your business
This short description should be 2-3 sentences about your church. It does not need to be a complete Mission Statement or Theological Statement. But something simple that give people a feel for the style of your church.
This may need to be modified somewhat from site to site for length. You may end up with a short version and a very short version.
5. Church Logo
A great place to start as far as the size of your church logo is 300px by 300px at 72dpi. If your logo does not fit well into a square that is ok, but just know some of it may get cut off or skewed depending on the site where you are uploading it to.
You can use software such as Photoshop Elements to resize it. Or you can use a site like FIVERR.com and have someone convert it for you for a few bucks.
6. Pictures you would like in your Google Places & Maps listing
5-10 pictures if possible. These can be pictures of your facilitiy, Services, as well as Kids and Youth Ministries. You will not need to put these in your document. But you will need to save them in a folder with your Local Promotion Resource Document. These will benefit from being converted to 72dpi as well.
7. YouTube Video Links
Do you have videos on a YouTube channel that you would like to include? Videos on YouTube are an effective way to become found and spread the word about your church. You will want to have at least one link to a YouTube video if possible to add to the listings. Many have a section for you to add videos.
8. Keywords and Google Search Terms
What specific local search terms do you think people would use to find your business online? You can name more than one.
By local we mean including the city/area in the term. Example – tulsa church, tulsa independent church. Note that sometimes they ask you to leave the city and location out of your search terms taking that from your address. Modify your terms to remove your city and use the same ones for those.
9. Website Name or Landing Page
If your church has an actual website you will want to use this. If not, you can use another page you operate from suach as a Facebook Page. You will just need to remember to go back and change out the website everywhere if you do build a website in the future.
10. Name and Birthday of one contact person to put on the accounts
This one is kind of strange since it is for a church, but the listings ask specifically for this information. This can be your Pastor, but if that changes it can be annoying to go back and change it all. You can also potentially get by with using First Baptist as an example as first and last name and date church started or something as the birthdate. The birthdate will probably have to be 13 years old however to work so keep that in mind.
11. Miscellaneous Information
Since every site is different you may run into other pieces of information you want to save for copy and paste later. Put that in this section so you do not have to rethink it when you encounter it.
